A chuppah is typically in the shape of four straight posts with a tallit shawl draped overhead. Among other things, the chuppah symbolizes the wedding couple’s new home that they will create together. This special meaning inspires us to be creative with our chuppahs. For Dorsa and Eliot’s wedding at the Four Seasons Westlake Village, we created gracefully curved branches instead of straight posts. We filled out the frame with lots of eucalyptus and greenery, sprinkled with fresh white flowers. Inside the ballroom, we kept things light and airy with more white florals and baby’s breath, as well as a mix of blush and pink arrangements for additional color. Gorgeous patterned lighting everywhere by Sky Lighting Productions gave additional dimension... Read More

A unique ceremony backdrop is the key to creating a big impact during the exchange of vows. For Carolyne and Ben, we designed a series of crescent shapes encrusted with roses in shades of pink and coral. The result was truly eye popping, adding a sense of modern romance to the ceremony. The reception featured cool grays in the chairs and table tops, a perfect neutral complement to our coral and pink centerpieces. We broke up the pretty pinks with touches of light green hydrangeas and ruscus greenery. The round tables featured coral linens, upon which we perched tall, elegant centerpieces in a mix of light yellow, pink, coral and light green. Adding a modern touch were our gray concrete... Gulls Way is a spacious estate right on the Pacific Ocean in Malibu, California. Kelly and Dylan wanted to brig some drama to their beachside wedding by utilizing deep, bold red for their reception, and we were happy to oblige. We created red rose centerpieces that worked beautifully against white linens and black chairs. A gazebo structure formed a rigging point for twinkle lights that sparkled all night. The daytime ceremony called for a lighter, fresher look. Our lush arch of roses and greenery provided a pretty yet substantial backdrop to the couple’s vows. We added more florals at the base of the arch for a grounded feel, and created a matching arrangement in a classic urn for the escort... Read More

Unlikely combinations of colors and textures are what we LIVE for here at Butterfly! When Shirin and Arsalan wanted to bring in black to a rustic theme at their Saddlerock Ranch wedding, we were 100% in. We made the black element work by keeping the rest of the color palette simple: White with greenery. Greenery bought in the rustic texture, and white gave the black a clean-cut, pristine counterpoint. We wound ruscus and white flowers around black arches on their ceremony aisle, and kept the greenery at a minimum for their all-white centerpieces in the reception. This monochromatic approach at the reception let the rustic wood of their tables really shine. The black napkins and chairs at the reception tables... Read More

The Hotel Bel-Air is a legendary A-lister hideaway tucked into the hills of Los Angeles. Lauren and Blake wanted their guests to feel like they were in a lush and beautiful retreat. Their wedding took place at the hotel’s iconic outdoor locations – the lake, inhabited by graceful swans, and a lawn nestled among the hotel, where we hung swathes of greenery and flowers along a wood arbor. Along with twinkle lights that echoed a starry night, the feel was truly that of a magical getaway. The ceremony arch featured lots of greenery and pops of white flowers. In the reception space, we hung tons of ruscus greenery on the trellis over the head table and designed pink and white... Read More

During the COVID lockdown, many churches were closed for health and safety reasons. Priscilla and Will wanted to bring the church outside for their wedding – and we were thrilled to help set the scene! The couple rented church pews for ceremony seating (courtesy of Found Rentals) and we created a beautiful backdrop consisting of wood pieces echoing the stained glass windows of a traditional church. Tons of greenery and white flowers accented the arches. We also added an arch at the end of the aisle featuring actual doors – just like the entrance of a church. The reception space was a beautiful tent with swagging and more greenery. A black and white scheme reflected in chameleon chairs, linens, and... Read More

MIssion Bay is a waterway in San Diego, a picturesque area perfect for weddings. Michelle and JR’s wedding ceremony was not only by this beautiful bay, thanks to the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa And Marina – but their reception took place near another body of water: the pool area of a gorgeous private home! We complimented their venues with reflective clear features – like crystals hanging down an acrylic chuppah. We also wove in tons of white to create this light and airy wedding design. The ceremony featured the stunning chuppah, accented with not only lots of clear crystals, but a rich adornment of orchids along the top. Clear chiavari chairs perfectly complemented the acrylic chuppah. The reception featured... Read More

Calamigos Ranch offers a whimsical, pastoral venue for weddings. Jessika and Adrian married among the dreamy trees and hanging lights in the Pavilion ceremony space; then, guests partied among nearby carnival rides and under Calamigos’ elegant tent. Our round ceremony structure, decorated with white roses, served as a dramatic backdrop for the couple. The natural mix of white flowers and greenery continued through the cocktail hour and reception space. We dressed the fireplace mantel with lots of gorgeous flowers, and moved the ceremony backdrop to the reception space to add visual impact to the sweetheart table. See below for photos by Brett Hickman Photo of this naturally pretty wedding. Floral Design: Butterfly Floral and Event Design Planning: Symphony Weddings & Events... Read More

For many weddings, the wedding chuppah is the first thing guests see and presents an opportunity to make a big impact with wedding design. Most importantly, the chuppah is an important symbol of Jewish weddings. We try to make every chuppah special and unique, and for Nicole and Mateen’s Saddlrock Ranch wedding, we created a large, lush structure to shelter the couple and their family during their wedding vows. Tree trunks supported the chuppah, and each corner held full greenery and flowers; the chuppah looked as if it were created by four trees. We collected white wildflowers at the base of each ‘tree’.’ Natural florals lined the white catwalk aisle for a cohesive, organic look. We added gold accents to... Read More

For their multicultural ceremony, Sasha and Aneesh asked for light, pretty colors mixed with vivid accents. We styled the existing pergola at Hummingbird Nest Ranch with garlands of hot pink florals for the mandap portion of the ceremony. We removed the hot pink garlands for the second ceremony, and kept the border of soft green and pink florals and greenery. In the reception space, we gave a fresh garden feel to the round tables with light pink roses interspersed with lush greenery, and for a special touch, vine winding down the stands holding the tall centerpieces. On long tables, we created ‘floating’ centerpieces of textural, classic arrangements on clear plastic bridge stands. Hanging bulbs with candles added to the magic... Read More
